USA 1-2 Mexico: Rafa Marquez settles tie

Rafa Marquez proved the difference between the two sides as the El Tri claimed a famous win away in the USA. The game started tight as both teams were unwilling to commit but Layun’s 25-yard effort took a deflection and found the bottom corner for the opener.

They almost added a second when Vela hit the crossbar with a header. Bobby Wood equalised for the host four minutes into the second half after losing Howard to injury just before the interval. Jozy Altidore did well to feed Wood who finish well just inside the area.

And the hammer blow struck when 37-year old captain, Rafa Marquez headed a late near-post header into the corner from a Layun set-piece.
