A late Banou Diawara goal denied Bafana Bafana three points away from home. It looked like the South Africans will secure all three points when Dean Furman put them ahead with 10 minutes to go smashing a pile driver into the bottom left-hand corner off a [artially cleared corner. Jonathan Pitroipa's penalty was superbly kept out by Itumeleng Khune in a match that saw them miss two penalties- a second by Alain Traore stepped who blazed his effort wide off the mark when Nakoulma was fouled in the box. South Africa were also profligate in front of goal though as Hlompho Kekana, Rodgers were culprits. However heavens smiled on the host as poor defending allowed Bakari Kone to hook the ball back into the area and Diawara was
on hand to get the faintest of touches to divert it past Khune.

Ivory Coast 3-1 Mali
Sambou Yatabare stunned reigning African champions Ivory Coast by racing on to a long pass and chipping the ball over goalkeeper Sylvain Gbohouo for an early lead in Bouake. The Ivorians responded in style when Jonathan Kodjia and Gervinho scored within nine minutes during which Salif Coulibaly conceded an own-goal. Kodjia, who recently joined Aston Villa, smashed the ball past goalkeeper Oumar Sissoko from outside the box on 25 minutes. Mali then fell behind when Coulibaly turned a low cross into his own net five minutes later and China-based Gervinho rounded up the game with the third goal from just inside the penalty area. Ivory Coast lead Group C after likely closest rivals Morocco were held 0-0 by Gabon in Franceville.
Senegal 2-0 Cape Verde
Lazio striker Keita Baldé scored one and assisted the other in a man of the match performance as Senegal claimed a 2-0 win over Cape Verde in their opening Group D 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier in Dakar on Saturday evening. The Teranga Lions made light work of the Blue Sharks as they continued where they left off - having registered six wins in six fixtures in their successful 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign- The only team to achieve that feat. Coached by Aliou Cissé, who was part of the squad that reached the quarterfinals at the 2002 Fifa World Cup in South Korea/Japan, Senegal are clear favourites to book their place at what would be only their second global showpiece.
