AFCON QUALIFIERS: IHEANACHO scores screamer in victory


The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated Tanzania 1-0 in a dead rubber game. The host missed a lot of clear cut chances before the City wonderkid settled matters in the 79th minute with a superb 20-yard volley that rattled the underside of the crossbar to hand Gernot Rohr a winning start, Nigeria play Zambia next month in a World cup qualifying match.

Ghana drew Rwanda 1-1 at home having already qualified. Samuel Tetteh opened scoring in the 24th minute before Rwanda equalised 7 minutes from time to set up a nervy ending for the Black Stars. They led the group by 14 points.

Ivory Coast sealed passage to the next AFCON with a 1-1 at home to Sierra Leone. Jonathan Kodjia gave the Ivorians the lead before Al-Hadji  Camara equalised for the away team. Mozambique won 1-0 against Mauritius.

Cape Verde lost at home to a Fouad Al Triki goal. Angola also drew 1-1 at home to Madagascar.
