The 30-man shortlist for African Player of the Year has been released by CAF. 2015 winner, Borussia Dortmund striker Aubameyang continues to achieve high after his recent impressive start to the season at Signal Iduna park. Yaya Toure who failed to win it last year despite lifting the African Cup of Nations has found himself out of the list after being frozen out of the City team by Guardiola. The four time winner will not have the opportunity to win it for a record fifth time.

A number of premier league stars including Riyad Mahrez, Eric Bailly, Andre Ayew, Islam Slimani, Mohamed Elneny, Victor Wanyama, John Obi Mikel, Kelechi Iheanacho, Ahmed Musa, Yannick Bolasie, Sadio Mane and Wahbi Khazri are also involved.
Three English based Nigerians, John Obi Mikel, Kelechi Iheanacho, Ahmed Musa will be hoping to break the jinx.
Samuel Eto'o has been included and will be aiming to achieve that feat himself, while other notable names include Serge Aurier, Gervinho, Mehdi Benatia and Kalidou Koulibaly.
