WENGER lauds Kanu's impact

Looking back on his 20-year illustrious Arsenal career, Wenger has appreciated the impact of African players at Arsenal. The likes of Christopher Wreh, Lauren, Alexander Song, Emmanuel Eboue, Marouane Chamakh and Emmanuel Frimpong are some that have played under the Frenchman.

Currently, Nigerian prodigy, Alex Iwobi and Egypt's Mohamed El Nenny are mainstays in the Arsenal squad. Kanu was one of the first African players to make a huge impact under Wenger increasing the Club's popularity on the continent and exposing Arsenal to the wealth of talents that abound on it.

He said to Arsenal's official website:
“African players had a massive impact on my career because I always managed them right from the moment I started in the top league in France.”

I had African players at Monaco and I like the fact that they were creative and they are usually attacking players with imagination. They have pace and power as well, and they usually combine strength and agility well. That’s very difficult to find."

“Africans are hugely passionate people and there is a big passion in Africa for the game. They are happy on the football pitch and that’s something which has been fantastic for us. Kanu had a massive impact here, Kolo Toure too, I had George Weah too… so all these players had a massive impact.”

Kanu won his second African Footballer of the Year prize in 1999 at Arsenal with Emmanuel Adebayor following suit in 2008.
