ATHLETICO draw Barcelona
An action packed encounter that saw six yellow cards was marred by a Lionel Messi injury ended in a 1-1 draw at the Camp Nou in what was the first major test of the season for both clubs.
Rakitic’s opener cancelled by Correa in the second half just a minute after Messi left the pitch, an injury that could see him sidelined for up to three weeks.
Chances flowed in both halves as Jan Oblak proved to be a stumbling block for the Blaugraunas denying Messi on the 15 minutes mark coupled with some excellent defending from the away team.
Rakitic converted a great header off Iniesta's cross moments before the half time whistle. Despite Barca dominating possession, they failed to find the killer blow. Correa then equalised for Athletico striking a shot just outside the box.
Both teams failed to score the winning goal rather sharing the spoils. Barcelona extended their 15-match unbeaten run at home against Atletico Madrid in all competitions.
