Ronaldo should have restored Madrid’s lead in the closing stages of the first half, but his finishing let him down twice- failing to get his foot to a cross from Bale after the Welshman’s superb run down the left, before wasting an even bigger opportunity after a quick counter-attack, his weak attempt barely troubling Iraizoz. The profligate Ronaldo missed another chance to restore his side’s lead when he volleyed high and wide after a cross from the left, before sending a tame header wide of the target after Kroos’ free-kick. Morata eventually popped up to make the difference coming to his side's rescue when his initial attempt save by Iraizoz, but he was quick to tap home the rebound.

Atletico went close shortly after, but Sergio Rico did well to deny Gameiro after the Frenchman burst into the left side of the area and shot. Sevilla looked to up the ante after the break and swiftly went desperately close to the opener – Nasri inspiring a fantastic one-touch passing move and then striking the post from 20 yards. Diego Godin failed to meet Mariano’s cross and it fell kindly for Vitolo in the centre of the area who blasted straight at Oblak. Sevilla went ahead soon afterwards as Atletico loanee Luciano Vietto played a clever pass over the visitors’ high defence and N’Zonzi charged through before calmly converting into the bottom-left corner. Atletico’s position was made even trickier shortly after, as Koke recklessly caught Rami and earned a second yellow card, easing Sevilla through the closing stages.
